Spreading Christmas cheer

I did a post on Why This Season Is Worth Celebrating and now I want to dive into some ways that we can help others see that. How can we spread Christmas cheer and encourage others to have comfort and joy?

1. Caroling
Spread Christmas cheer to others and brighten their day by getting a small group together and going caroling! It's a good old fashioned way to remind people of the joy of Christmas.

2. Wish others a "Merry Christmas"
And don't be afraid to use the word Christmas instead of happy holidays. :)

3. Give cards/gifts/cookies to neighbors and coworkers
Let them know you care about them and are thinking of them during this season.

4. Put up lights
Shining light in the darkness is a beautiful thing. And it can remind us how we must be lights for Christ in this dark and sinful world. Light in the darkness brings hope.

5. Put up a nativity
Remind people what this season is really all about.

6. Be joyful
How can you encourage others to be joyful when you yourself are not!

7. Hand out candy canes with the legend of the candy cane.
The candy cane can actually be a way to share the gospel with someone else really eaisly actually! Here's some resources to help on that: https://www.foodiefriendsfridaydailydish.com/the-legend-of-the-candy-cane/  https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Candy-Cane-Inspirational-Christmas/dp/0310212472

8. Give gifts to cashiers and waitresses
It will brighten their day and help work be a lot more enjoyable for them.

9. Send/give Christmas cards
People love receiving mail and cards. Whether it's a picture or a thoughtful hand written note, let others know you're thinking of them or praying for them this Christmas and as we head into a new year.

10. Play and share Christmas music.
Music can be such a mood lifter, and maybe someone just needs to hear a gospel centered Christmas song to remind them what the season is really about and that they have a reason to be joyful.

11. Host events or invite others to church or dinner.
Let people into your lives. This doesn't have to be anything big or stressful; I know this time of the year can be busy. If you have time, plan a caroling party or a ugly sweater party or a cookie exchange. Get creative with different events you can host. If you're busy and overwhelmed then maybe just invite someone to join you at church one Sunday. Or invite a family (or anyone) over for a simple meal.

12. Do the twelve days of Christmas for someone who's had a hard year.
This is something my mom likes to do and I think it's a really sweet way to remind those who have had a hard year that they are not alone. We are thinking of them and here for them and praying for them. It's a simple way to try and bring some happiness into their lives.

13. Think of people who don't have family
Maybe choose someone who is alone this Christmas season and have them over for dinner, or invite them to come to church with you. The holidays can be really hard for those who are lonely. Reach out to them and let them know they are not alone. Share the hope of the gospel with them. Show them the love of Christ.

These are just some fun ideas I've come up with! I'm sure there are more ways, and I'm not saying you have to do all of these! Don't overwhelm yourself with more than you can handle. Just look for ways you can serve and share with others the joy and hope that we have in Christ.
